Porsche 911 Titanium Brake Shims

During braking heat transfer from the brake pad backing plate to the brake fluid occurs and in extreme conditions the brake fluid can become overheated and seal damage can occur.     

By using a material that can inhibit heat transfer to the fluid it is possible to obtain significant performance.

The use of stainless steel shields has become a relatively common practice and whilst this material does provide some improvement its performance is limited.

The thermal conductivity of α-β Titanium Alloys such as 6L4V is much lower than a typical stainless steel and the benefit provided is correspondingly greater. 6AL4V is typically 4 times better than an Austenitic Stainless steel. It is also important to note that other Grades of Ti such as Grade 2 do not provide the same level of performance.

The use of 0.5 mm thick plates can reduce fluid temperature by at least 20 degC with 1mm thick plates achieving up to a 40degC reduction.

The Ti brake shields are manufactured to the same size as a standard brake pad and produce an easy to install and cost effective performance enhancement. These fit '74-'89 front brake calipers. 4 shims per set.
